Oberammergau - In 2010, in the small village of Oberammergau located in the heart of the Bavarian Alps, the 41st performance of the Passion Play will take place. About 2000 inhabitants take part in this 5 hour epic depicting the story of Christ’s passion beginning with His entry to Jerusalem and ending with the resurrection and transfiguration. The Passion Play was first performed in 1634. The people of Oberammergau made a vow to perform a Passion Play every ten years if God spared them from the bubonic plague. This event now draws in hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every ten years. The play is performed in German but English translations are available.
Oberammergau Programme
- Our Oberammergau pilgrimage will take in numerous European destinations as our stay in the Oberammergau area will be for either one or two nights. For the duration of your trip you can chose from one of three options. After our arrival in Oberammergau we will take some free time to explore the village. We will have lunch before attending the world famous Passion Play which will last until later in the evening. Over 2000 participants bring the story of Jesus of Nazareth to the audience in a 5 hour presentation on an open air stage. The play covers the period of Jesus entering Jerusalem and continues to His death on the cross and His resurrection. Dinner will be during the interval. - Munich, Vienna & Salzburg
Our panoramic tour of Munich includes visiting the Cathedral, St Peters church, Town Hall, Bavarian State Opera House, Hofbrauhaus, Ruhmeshalle and the Olympic Stadium. In Oberammergau attend the world famous Passion Play. Witness over 2000 bring the story of Jesus of Nazareth to the audience in a 5 hour presentation. Travel to Vienna and visit St Stephens Cathedral, Imperial Palace, State Opera House, Schonbrunn Palace, National Theatre, City Hall, St Ruperts Church, Parliament and Athena Fountain, Stephansplatz, and the Sisi Museum. We also enjoy a Strauss concert in the evening. In Salzburg we see the great Fortress, Cathedral, Mozart Square, Mozarts birthplace, and Leopoldskron Palace (Sound of Music).

Attend the world famous Passion Play in Oberammergau and see over 2000 participants bring the story of Jesus of Nazareth to the audience in a 5 hour presentation. In Interlaken take the cog-wheel train to Lauterbrunnen, cable-cars to Grutschalp and Schilthorn and the mountain railway to Murren. Fantastic sightseeing day trip on the local mountain railways. Enjoy the sights of the famous peaks of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Return via Wengen and Lauterbrunnen.

In Munich take a panoramic tour of the city which includes the Cathedral, St Peters church, Town Hall, Bavarian State Opera House, Hofbrauhaus, Ruhmeshalle and the Olympic Stadium. Drive to Oberammergau and attend the world famous Passion Play. In Padua visit the Basilica and tomb of St Anthony, and shrine of St Leopold Mandic. While in Venice take the ferry to St Marc’s Square and see Basilica of St Marc, Doges Palace, the Grand Canal, Rialto Bridge and take an optional canal trip by Gondola, the great Fortress, Cathedral, Mozart Square, Mozarts birthplace, and Leopoldskron Palace (Sound of Music) in Salzburg.
